A 100-by-35-foot steel barge that sank by accident in December 1985, about 5.3 nautical miles from Egmont Key Light and 3.3 nautical miles south of the dredged Egmont channel, in state water. FWC lists it in 25 feet with about 8 feet of relief; NOAA's 2019 survey charts a dangerous wreck with about 33 feet over it within about 40 meters of FWC's position, most likely the same barge, on bottom of about 30 to 36 feet.

How to fish it

Drift live crabs or baitfish past the barge for cobia and permit, then anchor clear of it for snapper (FWC's permit and cobia tips).

Watch out for: The depths disagree, so trust the sounder. The charted gas pipeline, with sections known to be exposed, passes about 1.3 nautical miles north: don't anchor near it. Expect strong tidal current this close to the bay mouth.
Rules here: State water: FWC's reef fish gear rules and the State Reef Fish Angler designation apply. The rules to check in Tampa Bay nearshore waters
