The south tip of St. Pete Beach, where Pass-a-Grille Channel meets the Gulf between Long Key and Tierra Verde and Shell Key. FWC's Tampa Bay guide lists the Pass-a-Grille Fishing Jetty at Gulf Way and 1st Avenue. Boats cross the bar by North Channel, which the Coast Pilot calls well marked but which had only 3 feet to the Intracoastal Waterway in 2022; South Channel was reported completely shoaled in 2003. The flood sets north at about 1.2 knots and the ebb south at about 1.4. The bay-side piers on Pass-a-Grille Way belong to the inshore guide.

How to fish it

From the jetty and the beach, fish moving water: snook in summer (FWC's beach tips) and sheepshead in late winter and spring. Boats can work the outer bar on calm days.

Watch out for: A shallow bar that takes local knowledge, a good tide and calm seas. Swimmers on the beach: FWC advises against shore fishing where lots of people are swimming.
Rules here: FWC's Tampa Bay rules for snook and redfish apply. The rules to check in Tampa Bay nearshore waters
